Mention the Kumbh Mela and most Indians (South Asian, not West or American) born in the 80s and before will recall images not so much of a Hindu Pilgrimage site or of Naga Sadhus, but of TWINS. Twins who are separated soon after birth, in early infancy. In spite of being well aware that history repeats itself (especially at the Kumbh), parents insist on taking their offspring to the famed mela, where one of the siblings will soon get lost in the crowd and be separated from his kith and kin.
Many years later, serendipity or divine intervention guarantees these twins meeting again … to compare birthmarks and moles.
Similarly, the www is a perpetual mela. Thousands dive in every minute, in ways big and small. It should come as no surprise that some are bound to get lost and separated, only to reunite. It hence gives me great pleasure to introduce the splitting image of Flipkart:
Hear me out, hear me out.
I would ordinarily have done nothing about it, but a kind Professor emailed Sachin today. The Professor received a mailer from the Elfy guys and found it all a bit suspicious. “Fraudulent and misleading” were two of the many words he used, and thought it was best to bring it to our notice. He was hoping we could shed some light as to who these people are.
To move on then:
They’ve got the whole liquid layout thing going, which is kind of neat. Needs a bit of work, but still. Oh, wait …
That Greatbong Book Box on the bottom right looks awfully familiar. Even the words within, seems so much like something I might have hastily edited for Flipkart over a month ago. Hmm…
And these friendly boxes just below it look annoyingly familiar too.
Can’t say I blame the Professor for suspecting something. He felt it imperative that we do something about the “phishing” website, if it does turn out to be one.
For a fact, we have absolutely nothing to do with ELFYkart.com. I’m sure they had their reasons and inspirations and so on and so forth, for now we’ll leave it at that. You are free to go ahead and transact with them, but Flipkart will not be held responsible. I don’t speak Legalese too well, but I’m sure my point’s clear.
I will place an order though and see how it goes.
Besides, someone or the other will probably read this sometime or the other and let the Elfy guys know as well. Only wish them and us had that one other person in common, the one who would lead to our meeting.
I wonder who that might be?
Aah! Glad Elfy has one fans. Will check in with him.
Just hope he doesn’t turn out to be someone like me. What do you think?
